No Appeal for first Corporate Manslaughter case
Cotswold Geotechnical Holdings, the first
company convicted of corporate manslaughter, has been refused
permission to appeal their conviction and £385,000 fine, by the
Court of Appeal.
International Workers’ Memorial Day commemorated by
thousands
On 28 April 2011 thousands of people
around the country stopped to commemorate those who have been
killed, injured, rendered disabled or made unwell by work.
£120,000 fine for fatal electrocution
A company has been fined £120,000
following the fatal electrocution of a 21 year old worker.
DWP report sets direction for future HSE inspections
The DWP have produced a report titled
“Good Health and Safety Good for Everyone” that sets the direction
for health and safety for the future including the roll back of
inspections in certain sectors and the proposed “fee for fault”
policy.
Suspended sentence for Company Director
A company director has been sentenced to
six months imprisonment, suspended for two years, 150 hours
community service, a fine of £120,000 and been ordered to pay costs
of £21,000.
Network Rail fined £3 million following Potters Bar crash
Network Rail have been fined £3 million
and ordered to pay £150,000 after pleading guilty to breaches of
health and safety law following the Potters Bar rail crash on 10
May 2002.
£150,000 fine after serious chemical spill
A company has been fined £150,000
following a serious chemical spill which saw 430 tonnes of solvent
and contaminated waste water released at a chemical plant in Rye,
East Sussex.
Two companies and a worker are prosecuted following the fatal
crushing of a worker by falling two tonne excavator bucket
An excavator operator and plant hire
company have been fined following the death of a worker who was
crushed by a two tonne excavator bucket that had been suspended
above an area where employees were working.
New fixed penalty notices for careless drivers
The Coalition Government has announced
new measures for bad drivers, with the announcement of fixed
penalty fines of up to £100 for committing the offence of Careless
and Inconsiderate Driving.
