Regulatory services

Expert advice and guidance on regulatory issues concerning health and safety, the environment, licensing, transport and trading standards.

Regulation has placed increasing responsibilities on both commercial and  non-commercial organisations in recent years, and is likely to continue doing so. In the critical areas of health and safety, transport, the environment and trading standards, a high level of awareness and preparation is needed to avoid incurring potentially heavy penalties.

Weightmans' Regulatory Services team was established to provide a single-source, value-for-money advisory service for all these regulatory issues. Whatever your business, we will help you to prevent problems wherever possible, and to manage them effectively when they do occur.

Dealing with health and safety, we have a team of experienced advocates including a former HSE Inspector. We provide a seamless service, from consultancy, advice and training solutions through to post-incident investigation, representation at PACE interviews and support throughout court proceedings, including inquests. In critical situations where you may need immediate support and advice, we provide a 24-hour emergency response service.

In terms of prevention, we offer a full range of advisory services, including    on-site risk survey and assessment work, advice about documentary procedures and safety management systems, plus full site audit services. Our health and safety training solutions include bespoke packages tailored to your needs and various accredited programmes, including the IOSH flagship courses “Managing Safely” and “Working Safely”.

Our transport specialists offer general advice about Operator’s Licence issues and other regulatory requirements. In addition we provide expert support based on many years’ experience in criminal proceedings and representation at Traffic Commissioner’s Public Inquiries.

The increasing media spotlight on all things green means that organisations in all sectors are increasingly affected by environmental issues ranging from contaminated land and waste disposal through to pollution of water courses and noise abatement. Our friendly and accessible team will guide you through the web of legislation and help you protect your employees and your business.

The firm has a long history of advising clients in the leisure/retail sector in connection with licensing matters, formally in a department led for many years by Robert Gaul, the father of the firm's current Managing Partner.

Today, since the creation of the Regulatory Services team, new commercial clients are directed this way, whilst colleagues in the firm's Public Sector business line provide advice and support to Local authorities and Police clients.
