Barry qualified as a solicitor in 1990, having
read law at the University of Leeds and being awarded an LLB
(Hons) in 1987. Progressing through Dibb Lupton Alsop (formerly the
Birmingham office of Needham & James), Barry took up the
position of Senior Associate at Wragge & Co in 2000 having
spent two years in the private equity team at Pinsent Curtis.
In 2008, Barry took up a partnership at Needham & James to head
up the Corporate team. He joined Weightmans in January
2009.
Barry advises and manages multi-disciplinary
teams on transactional mergers, acquisitions and disposals
(including cross border transactions) of private companies, company
re-organisations, management buy-outs, buy-ins, partnering and
joint ventures.
Examples of work undertaken and relevant
matters includes: share/asset acquisitions and
disposals; warranty insurance in transactions: share
buy-backs; auction sales; Section 110
re-structurings; directors duties; Companies Act 2006
matters; LLP formations etc; writing articles e.g.
abolition of financial assistance.
Barry has recently led a transactional team to
create one of the first ever mergers of its type between two GP
practices. Two heart of Birmingham medical practices have
come together to form a ‘Super Partnership’ – in line with current
Government policies to improve efficiency at local level within the
NHS.
Barry is also a course assessor for the
Solicitors Regulatory Authority – assessing courses for providers
seeking accreditation for the delivery of continued professional
development training to solicitors and other
professionals.
