Ian is a construction partner in the
Birmingham office. He has 21 years continuous and exclusive
experience as a construction lawyer, having been a partner at niche
practice Neil Jones and Co, and then for nine years at Wragge
and Co.
His work has been a mix of front end advisory
and drafting work, and advice in connection with disputes. He has
advised contractors on a number of PFI and infrastructure projects,
including extensions to the Docklands Light Railway. He has acted
for various local authorities in the West Midlands on highways
framework contracts. He recently advised a contractor and
a project manager on various FIDIC-based process plant and
waste-to energy projects.
On the contentious side, he has acted for
contractors and local authorities in many disputes under NEC, ICE,
JCT, MF/1 and I Chem E contracts. Most if these have been resolved,
often in mediation, but Ian has taken a number through the
adjudication process. Ian has also acted in various multi-party
professional negligence actions in the High Court.
Ian is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of
Arbitrators, a regional organiser of the Society of Construction
Law and a regular columnist in “Building” magazine.
