"Phil has over 20 years experience in
acting on behalf of ship owners , ports , fleet
hauliers , their specialist insurers and allied industry
organisations.
Described by clients as
" being good at evaluating and solving
difficult issues " and " bringing comprehensive
knowledge to all aspects of port and shipping
business" Phil is experienced in dealing with a
broad spectrum of issues arising out of the interaction
between ship, port and cargo interests. From claims arising
out of collisions, unsafe ports , pollution and
environmental incidents , bailment and goods in transit
to fatal accidents, HSE and MCA intervention ,
slippers and trippers , Phil's detailed
understanding of operational and legal issues affecting the
marine industry as a whole enables him to give
clients genuinely " commercial " advice .
Like all members of the Weightmans
team, Phil is a claims lawyer and a commercial lawyer. "Deal
doing" and litigating are equal parts of the offering.
Phil is also proud to remain
one of the few practitioners providing advice to the fishing
industry and its specialist insurers. His experience also
extends to the offshore and supply industry.
Acting for both insurer and insured
also gives Phil the ability to advise on risk management, risk
sharing and risk transfer which he does regularly , providing pro
active advice to management on how to comply with the myriad of
obligations and regulations which are part of their business.
Phil also has particular experience
in the Irish insurance market in respect of marine and general
litigation."
