A recognised expert in the field of clinical
negligence and healthcare law, Rena joined the firm in 2001.
She qualified in Eire in 1979 and then England and Wales in 1989
having previously been a partner at Le Brasseur J Tickle from
1990.
Rena is head of the London clinical negligence
team and an NHS Litigation Authority nominated partner.
Rena handles a wide range of obstetric cases
across the full range including hypoxic birth injury, wrongful
birth, neonatal and screening cases. Many of these are
concluded by periodical payments awards. She handles cases
involving unusual or difficult issues. She has particular
expertise in handling cases with a foreign element often involving
investigation of claims in foreign jurisdictions and presentation
of claims in mixed currencies. She also specialises in other
birth injury and catastrophic injury cases.
Rena has a particular expertise in multiparty
or group litigation including litigation following outbreaks of
Clostridium Difficile and cases with Human Rights Act aspects.
She advises trusts on consent to treatment
issues and has been involved in a number of leading cases.
Other areas of specialism include mental health, inquests and
general healthcare advisory.
Rena is a member of the Clinical Disputes
Forum and accredited as a mediator by CEDR. She has attended
and presented at seminars including the Civil Justice Council,
workshops and seminars for clients and other external
conferences. She has contributed to Clinical Risk.
Chambers UK describes Rena as “a
personable, sensitive and pragmatic solicitor”. The
Legal 500 states that she is “excellent”.
