Robert joined Weightmans as a partner in the
professional risks team in 2008. He originally qualified as a
barrister and has practiced almost exclusively in the professional
indemnity and liability fields since qualifying. During his career
he has acted for all manner of professionals including solicitors,
accountants, surveyors and financial services professionals, and he
has particular expertise in the construction field where he has
considerable experience in all forms of dispute resolution and the
major forms of contract.
Robert has been involved in many complex and
high-value disputes, including the mediation of a claim for in
excess of £160m against a Project Manager and Supervisor under an
NEC2 project, the defence of a firm of hydraulic engineers in a
claim relating to the failure of a major flood relief scheme, and a
claim in the Commercial Court concerning the scope of a block
notification under a surveyor’s professional indemnity
policy. In the financial services field Robert represented
insurers in defence of a group action concerning the failure of a
fraudulent pension scheme, and also for the insurers of numerous
IFA’s, accountants and fund managers involved in the Split Capital
Investment Trust scandal. He also acted for the D&O insurers of
a major UK fund manager in respect of the alleged negligent
construction of an investment model and the substantial associated
losses.
Robert is a Member of the Chartered Institute
of Arbitrators, and he holds membership of the Society of
Construction Law, the Professional Negligence Bar Association and
the Solicitors’ Association of Higher Court Advocates.
