Sallie is an associate solicitor in the Local Government team.
When joining Weightmans in 2010, Sallie brought extensive
experience from both in-house and private practice in delivering
legal services to local authorities. Her experience includes, in
particular, education, child protection and community care.
Sallie specialises in community care including children and
families, people from abroad and vulnerable adults. This
encompasses a broad spectrum of public law including human rights,
data protection, charging, continuing care, mental health, mental
capacity, disability and child law. Sallie’s experience working
with local authorities includes providing detailed advice on
responsibilities under the Children Act 1989, including child
protection proceedings. Matters affecting people from abroad is one
of her particular areas of interest. Sallie has extensive
experience assisting local authorities in applying law and policy
to real problems. She helps clients to resolve disputes in
connection with authority responsibility, assessment and service
provision, including litigation where necessary.
Having worked in-house for Local Authorities, dealing with such
matters as disability discrimination, exclusion appeals and Special
Educational Needs disputes including tribunal applications, Sallie
continues to work in all areas of education.
In addition to providing advice, Sallie delivers training on
community care law and has extensive experience delivering training
to local authorities, health professionals and other agencies
across England and Wales.
Sallie has acted in significant cases such as: KC & Anor v
City of Westminster Social & Community Services Department
& Anor [2008] EWCA Civ 198.
Sallie has a general interest in public law including health
law.
