Dawn Finlayson

Dawn is a Principal Associate in our family law team in Glasgow specialising in Scottish family law and Scottish child law. She is 16 years qualified having spent the majority of her career advising clients exclusively on family and child law matters. Dawn is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in Child law.

Dawn has experience dealing with different types of cases involving prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, separation, divorce (including high net worth divorces), cohabitation claims,  child relocation cases, contact, residence, adoption, surrogacy, permanence orders and children’s referrals.

Whilst Dawn has strong litigation skills, having regularly appeared in various courts across Scotland since 2007, she understands that for many clients, court action should be a last resort — particularly where matters concern children. Dawn will always aim to resolve cases by negotiation and to utilise her skills to try and achieve an amicable resolution as efficiently as possible.

Dawn is sensitive to the fact that most clients are seeking advice about difficult and often traumatic situations. Dawn strives to deal with cases with sensitivity and compassion. Dawn is focused on helping you reach a resolution in your case amicably and efficiently. She quickly builds rapport with clients. Dawn advises her clients about the availability and benefits of utilising methods of Alternative Dispute resolution.  Dawn is a collaboratively trained lawyer and a member of Consensus Scotland.  Dawn advises her clients about the benefits of dealing with their cases by way of  collaboration and also, when appropriate,  refers them to mediation

Dawn is a member of the Family Law Association and of  the Glasgow Bar Association.

Dawn is a volunteer at the Scottish Child Law centre.

Dawn previously volunteered at the Promoting Positive Contact centre, which is child contact centre based in the Glasgow, where parents or relatives can have contact with their child or children.

Dawn is a Board member of the charity Mellow Parenting. Mellow Parenting designs and delivers training programmes that promote parent — child relationships.

Dawn is part of the winning team named Family Law Firm of the Year at the LexisNexis Family Law Awards.
