Birmingham lawyer adds weight to trophy cabinet

Laura Kearsley, an associate at law firm Weightmans LLP has walked away with a trophy for the second year running this week when she was named Assistant / Associate Solicitor of the year at the annual Birmingham Law Society Legal Awards 2010.

The award comes almost exactly a year after Laura, who is part of the firm’s employment team and is based in its Birmingham office, was successful in the legal category of the region’s inaugural Women on their Way awards.

Laura is a prominent figure in the region’s legal community as Chairwoman of the West Midlands branch of the Association of Women Solicitors and the judges said that it was her involvement in the association as well as her tireless work for clients through her role at Weightmans that really impressed them.

Laura said of the win:

“I am so happy to win this award; it came as a complete surprise! The award ceremony was fantastic and it was great to have my colleagues there to cheer me on.

“The standard was so high this year so I’m really honoured to have been chosen for the award.”

David Tuck, head of the Birmingham office said of the win:

“This is a great achievement and Laura should be extremely proud of all the work she has done this year. She is truly an asset to the Birmingham office and the firm as a whole.”

Laura’s colleagues, partner and head of the Commercial Dispute Resolution and Insolvency team in the Midlands Verona Cocks and trainee Bhavesh Prajapati were also nominated in the Commercial Solicitor of the Year and Trainee Solicitor of the Year categories respectively.
