Deal done for Weightmans' new 'Plaza'
Since the firm’s original inception in 1827, Weightmans LLP has
expanded from its Liverpool base to become a national legal
practice and now the management team has begun orchestrating the
firm's largest ever relocation.
The dotted line has now been signed on a 15
year lease for 94,000 sq ft at The Plaza on Old Hall Street. The
move will see the relocation of more than 550 lawyers and support
staff in early 2012.
The move marks one of the largest lettings in
Bruntwood's history and the largest private sector letting in
Liverpool for six years.
Bruntwood has invested £24m into the Plaza
since its acquisition in 2003 which includes the £2.4 million
reception entrance relocation to St Paul’s Square.
David Lewis, head of the Weightmans' Liverpool
office, said: "This move will be the beginning of a new chapter for
the Liverpool office - reflecting our confidence in the business
and our determination to provide an excellent working environment
for our people and flagship headquarters from where we can welcome
and service clients."
Andrew Butterworth, director of sales at
Bruntwood, said: "We are thrilled Weightmans chose the Plaza as the
firm's new base. This is a particularly significant letting as it
was hotly contested between landlords in the region and even more
so being the largest in the North West this year and one of
Bruntwood's biggest ever signings."
The office move will relocate Weightmans' HQ
from the historic India Buildings on Water Street which it has
occupied since 2001, to the heart of the city's commercial
district.
