Law firm praised for being ‘extremely client-centric’ by national legal guide

A focus on client care and specialist advice has seen national law firm Weightmans LLP achieve high rankings in the new edition of legal guide Chambers UK.

In what has been a year of great growth and expansion for the firm – most notably through merger with North West firm Mace and Jones - 26 departments received positions in the independent guide to the UK’s top law firms. This includes brand new rankings for the Shipping and Professional Negligence practice areas where the teams were described as ‘highly professional’ and providing ‘concise and relevant advice’.

Weightmans retained a top tier ranking in the Personal Injury: Mainly Defendant and Police Law categories, with the Police Law team hailed for their “extremely client-centric” work ethic. The firm was also moved into the top tier in the Insurance: The Regions and Scotland category, with Head of Large Loss David Holt singled out as "one of the best in the business."

The Weightmans Family Law team received a top tier ranking in the Family/Matrimonial: North West category after the “highly regarded” Mace & Jones team joined the firm as part of the merger between the firms. Head of Family Law at Weightmans Carole Atkinson is praised for her "extremely deft touch in the presentation of cases."

Weightmans’ Local Government team continues to impress as it moves up the rankings for the second year running, now occupying a Band 3 position in the Local Government: London and UK wide category. The team was noted for its provision of “full-service support to local authorities”.

In addition the firm moved up to Band 3 in the Health & Safety: London and UK wide category, and the Employment team in the Midlands climbed the rankings to go from Band 5 to Band 4.

Patrick Gaul, managing partner at Weightmans, said:

“We are very pleased with this year’s rankings; they clearly demonstrate the growing strength of the firm as a whole and the outstanding achievements of individual practice areas post-merger.

“The rankings echo our firm wide ethos of great client service teamed with the most up to date knowledge available and we are delighted that the testimonials included in the guide reflect this.”

Weightmans has enjoyed a number of highlights over the last twelve months, merging with Mace & Jones and acquiring the insurance division of Vizards Wyeth. The firm’s increased national reach and strength was also recognised in this year’s Legal 500, with Weightmans ranked in a record breaking 50 areas of law.
