Law firm's diversity recognised in annual survey
Weightmans has been recognised for its dedication to equality
in the workplace in the 2009 Diversity League Table.
The annual report, compiled and published by the Black
Solicitors Network, looks at law firms’ efforts to address gender,
ethnicity and disability challenges by analysing the background of
all associates, partners, paralegals and trainees.
The results are analysed and firms are scored in a series of
categories – the total of which secures their overall ranking.
Weightmans’ Head of HR and Development Sam Airey
said:
“We have entered the Diversity League table every year since it
was first published in 2005.
“We strive to create a make-up of staff which reflects the
society in which we operate, while at the same time seeking to
employ the very best legal minds regardless of gender, ethnicity or
disability.
“Gender equality was our strongest ranking and we secured an
overall 4th place for gender balance amongst associates which is
fantastic.
"Although we are pleased with our overall result there is always
room for improvement and we will use this latest report as a
benchmark against which we can further promote diversity in the
firm.
“A career in law should be open to everyone and surveys such as
the Diversity League Table challenge law firms of all shapes and
sizes to offer a range of opportunities, equally.”
Of the 50 law firms that responded to the survey, Weightmans
were ranked 7th amongst Top 100 firms that responded and 14th
overall.
