Weightmans’ regulatory team in safe hands with new consultancy appointment
Weightmans has continued its expansion with the appointment of
heavyweight lawyer Ray Clarke to the Regulatory department.
Ray has joined Weightmans from Nabarro LLP where he was a
Partner and most recently a Consultant specialising in all aspects
of Environmental and Health & Safety Law, both contentious and
non-contentious.
Ray has acted for many well-known UK and overseas companies
across a wide range of sectors including manufacturing, waste,
mining and minerals and property. He is one of the country’s
leading lawyers in both Environmental Law and Health & Safety
Law with Chambers UK identifying him as the ‘Senior Statesman’ and
‘a very knowledgeable and experienced practitioner who can always
be relied on to give commercially astute advice’.
Ray has acted on behalf of organisations lobbying for changes in
policy and legislation and has also represented companies on
climate change matters.
He is recognised for his strong negotiating skills with
regulators and government bodies and recent work has included
successfully challenging devolved governments on the interpretation
of legislation in the areas of marine dredging and EU waste
law.

Ray is also a fellow of the Institute of Quarrying and a speaker
on courses run by the International Development Law Institute in
Rome and elsewhere overseas.
He presents at conferences and to trade and industry bodies and
also carries out bespoke training to enable clients and
organisations to deal with the ever-increasing burden of
legislation and the management of incidents.
