Weightmans partner takes role as chair of Law Society Housing Committee
A partner at national law firm Weightmans LLP has been
appointed Chair of the Law Society Housing Law Committee for a
three year term.
Sian Evans, head of the social housing team at the firm, has
been sitting on the committee for the past three years and will
take on her new role as Chair from 1 September 2011.
The Law Society Housing Law Committee is a group of specialist
housing solicitors that lobby the Government and prepare responses
to Government consultations on relevant housing issues. As Chair,
Sian will lead this process to seek to improve housing law,
procedure and practice.
“The Committee plays an important role in developing the debate
around housing law issues. I look forward to leading the
Committee’s representations to the Government on issues we all feel
passionately about,” said Sian.
“The social housing sector is currently experiencing a real
period of change, whether in response to the public spending cuts,
housing crisis or specific legal challenges. I hope the Committee
will be able to use its position to address these issues with
Government on behalf of housing providers.”
The appointment comes at a busy period for Sian, whose social
housing team has expanded considerably following Weightmans’ merger
with Mace & Jones. The team has also recently taken on a new
hire, associate Jane Plant, in response to its growing client
base.
