Weightmans receives dual nominations for national awards

National law firm Weightmans LLP has rounded off a year of exceptional growth with the news that the firm has been shortlisted for two accolades at the Legal Business Awards.

The firm has received nominations in the categories of Dispute Resolution Team of the Year and National/Regional Law Firm of the Year at the influential awards, which recognises the finest accomplishments within the profession.

The Dispute Resolution team has gone from strength to strength in 2011. In particular, a team led by Partner Michael Green, was instrumental in securing a win in the landmark decision of Harrow LBC [Brent LBC and LAML] v Risk Management Partners Ltd 2011 in the Supreme Court, on the viability of a mutual insurance company for local authorities.

In acknowledgment of the firm’s demonstration of strength and initiative throughout 2011, judges have also shortlisted Weightmans in the prestigious category of National/Regional Firm of the Year. Four years of consecutive revenue growth have this year been capped off by two significant mergers; the first with insurance specialists Vizard's Wyeth and the second with North West firm Mace & Jones; adding 200 staff and an estimated £20m in revenue.

The firm’s increased national reach and strength in depth was also recognised in this year’s Legal 500, with Weightmans ranked in a record-breaking 50 separate areas of law.
