Apply for training contract
“What sets Weightmans apart is the access to
high quality training, extensive client contact and a variety of
personal development opportunities all in a friendly and sociable
environment.”
Chaitali Desai, trainee
What’s involved?
Unlike many firms we offer our trainees real legal experience
during their training contract, including attendance at court and
client meetings. Challenged right from the outset, our
trainees have the opportunity to demonstrate their talents across a
range of seats, following a focused training plan.
We consult with our trainees regarding preferred seats and post
qualification aspirations and believe that the commitment we make
to our trainees should last beyond the end of the training
contract.
When considering training contract applications we look at law
and non-law graduates from a variety of backgrounds who can
demonstrate an ability to achieve results. Above all, we
value well motivated candidates with a pragmatic approach, who can
make a positive contribution to a team.
We look to recruit between fourteen and sixteen trainee
solicitors each year and our retention of trainees as newly
qualified solicitors remains consistently high.
We pay a starting salary well above the minimum recommended by
the Law Society and this is reviewed every year to ensure that it
is competitive. We also offer an excellent benefits package
which includes flexi-time, a pension, health cover, life assurance,
corporate gym membership and 25 days holiday. We also offer
funding towards the GDL and LPC.
When and where?
We operate our training
contracts in three different areas: Midlands (Birmingham and
Leicester); North West (Knutsford, Liverpool and Manchester); and
South (Dartford and London).
We will shortly be recruiting for training contracts to commence
in September 2014.
Who can apply?
Anyone who is:
Currently studying at university or are a graduate
Interested in a career in law
Able to commence a training contract in September 2014
What is the application process?
The
application form to apply online will be available here in May
2012, with the deadline for applying being 15 July 2012.
However, if you have already applied through our vacation scheme
process early in 2012, there is no need to apply again here as your
application will already be considered.
We will then perform our selection exercise using the
information contained in your application form and will either
reject your application or take you through to the next stage of
the process, consisting of a telephone interview to take place week
commencing 23 July 2012.
Following those telephone interviews, we will then either reject
your application or take you through to the final stage of the
process, consisting of an assessment centre.
The assessment centre will take place in our Liverpool office
during the week commencing 20 August 2012 and will consist of
various individual and team-based exercises, designed to enable you
to demonstrate the skills and competencies we believe are essential
to be a success at Weightmans.
