Annual safeguarding seminars
We are delighted to invite you to our annual safeguarding seminars.
This year’s seminar will focus on the many key developments over the last 12 months, and the further changes on the horizon:
Liability – CN & GN v Poole BC dominates the legal scene, but it is only one of several pivotal judgments over the last year. The law around duties of care, vicarious liability and human rights has changed greatly. We will look at the themes behind the judgements, and how this might affect your case strategies.
In November and December 2018 IICSA is having a 3 week public hearing to look at the civil justice system, and asking whether it is fit for purpose for abuse victims. Most people think the Inquiry will recommend radical reform, whether that be no-fault redress schemes, damages tariffs, or the abolition of limitation. We are closely involved with these this hearing, and we will be able to report to you on the evidence put forward, and the Inquiry’s reaction.
Information sharing is at the heart of safeguarding. The focus on data security has never been greater. Claims in this area are on the increase, and you need to know the key elements of a valid claim, and effective approaches to meet them.
Elder abuse – will this area remain quiet, confounding many people’s predictions, or are there signs of increased claims volumes?
Rehabilitation has long been used in physical injury claims, but to date very rarely used in abuse claims. We may all be missing a trick. We will explore some leading-edge practice which has the potential to change claims fundamentally.
This seminar will be of particular relevance to local authorities, schools, care providers for both children and adults, housing providers, and their insurers.
