Employment: Harassment at work: Preventing and tackling claims
This event has now finished.
We are pleased to announce our next series of Employment seminars covering “Harassment at work: Preventing and tackling claims” The seminars will take place in various locations and booking is essential to secure your place. Please see details below.
Scandal in Hollywood and, much closer to home, in Westminster, has shone a spotlight on sexual harassment in recent months and the #MeToo campaign has given the issue a renewed social media profile. However research suggests that the problem is prevalent in our workplaces as well as in public life. Employee claims of sexual harassment, while thankfully relatively rare in most workplaces, can be difficult, sensitive and hugely damaging to an organisation. However, harassment can of course take many forms and our experience is that allegations of harassment on the basis of other protected characteristics such as disability, race and sexual orientation are not uncommon.
In this free seminar, experts from our Employment, Pensions and Immigration team will consider how UK employers can deal with harassment complaints confidently and effectively when they arise, as well as providing legal guidance that will help prevent harassment complaints arising at all. The issues we will cover in this session include:
- What is ‘harassment’? When does ‘banter’ become unacceptable behaviour?
- Sexual harassment and complaints related to other protected characteristics
- Investigating an employee complaint of harassment
- Your obligations to the ‘victim’ and the ‘accused’
- What to do if an employee is harassed by a customer or contractor
- Ensuring your polices and procedures protect your position (including the employer’s defence)
- Dealing with complaints and how to best defend employment tribunal claims for harassment and discrimination
As always there will be an opportunity to ask questions and to share your experience with other HR practitioners. We hope you are able to join us.
