New international environmental management standard published

International environmental management standard ISO 14001:2015, which brings the 2004 version up to date, has now been released.

International environmental management standard ISO 14001:2015, which brings the 2004 version up to date, has now been released. The new standard, which will be further revised in five years, was created to take into account the increasing complexity of environmental issues and ensure a consistent approach across other management system standards. The new guidance is also intended to provide simpler structure and language for environmental management systems.

The five core areas for the new requirements are summarised as follows:

  • Strategic leadership
  • Context
  • Interested parties
  • Risk and opportunities
  • Lifecycle

Further guidance standard ISO14004 to assist implementation of ISO14004 is expected to be published later this year or early next year.
