Merseyside’s The Sovini Group has appointed national law firm Weightmans as its principal legal services provider following a competitive bidding process.
Weightmans was the only law firm to be successful across all four lots put out to tender by the property, construction and facilities management company.
The firm will advise The Sovini Group and its subsidiaries on all aspects of corporate and employment law, and provide specialist legal guidance on housing management and property, land and development matters.
Founded in 2011, The Sovini Group is a co-operative made up of 15 commercial and not-for-profit organisations including social housing providers, property developers and construction firms.
As a part of its business model, a proportion of The Sovini Group’s profits are reinvested into its charity arm, supporting local communities and causes and works to increase the supply and quality of affordable housing across the UK.
Sian Evans, partner and head of registered providers at national law firm Weightmans, said: “The Sovini Group required a firm with a strong footing in corporate and employment law, but also a depth of sector-specific knowledge and experience in housing and property.
“Its progressive business model blending not-for-profit and commercial partners also brings unique challenges and opportunities. Our experience of working with both social housing providers and large corporates means we’re perfectly placed to guide and support the Group.”
Roy Williams, group chief executive at The Sovini Group added: “Our members are committed to helping the communities we operate in, and a big part of that is improving the provision of quality, affordable housing.
“We’re working to achieve this amid a complicated, fast-moving regulatory environment, so we were particularly drawn to Weightmans’ depth of expertise and track record helping others in our sector to navigate this landscape.”
