Experts from national law firm Weightmans have contributed to the newest guide from the Get It Right Initiative (GIRI), the organisation tackling avoidable error in the construction industry.
GIRI Members, led by the GIRI Design Working group shared knowledge and experience to create the Guide to Improving Value by Reducing Design Error, designed to address the causes of these avoidable errors from design deficiencies.
Paul Lowe, Associate at Weightmans leading on the firm's involvement in the GIRI said:
"Avoidable errors in the construction industry cost billions of pounds per year; causing damage, waste and harm which, with a change in attitudes and processes, could be prevented. We have been working hard alongside leading industry players as part of the GIRI, which is committed to reducing errors and their associated consequences across the construction industry. We are delighted to have had the opportunity to contribute to GIRI’s new Design Guide, discussing how collaboration for designers is a key factor in helping to reduce errors on construction projects. Collaborative working environment provides a team approach to getting things right, when all members of the team do their best to help the others to fulfil their responsibilities, and are open about areas where they themselves are struggling.
"We hope that the Design Guide and our continued support of the GIRI will go some way to helping to reduce error, keep people safe and create a better UK construction industry."
