Weightmans takes local community group HOME
The firm’s Manchester office donated tickets to the Inspire scheme which allows people to visit the theatre for £1
National law firm Weightmans has donated HOME Manchester theatre tickets worth over £800 to community groups, charities and voluntary organisations in Manchester who wouldn’t ordinarily be able to visit and experience the arts centre.
The first 13 tickets were used by the Theatre Trippers for a performance of Richard III in April 2019. The Theatre Trippers were founded in 2016 to help people create friendships and combat loneliness and isolation. Run by local resident Mike Bishop, the Theatre Trippers were originally founded as a group for older members of the East Manchester community. It has since grown to accommodate members aged between 30 and 80 years old from across the city, and similar groups have been established in other areas.
Weightmans has been a long time supporter of HOME, providing pro bono legal advice during the relocation from the Cornerhouse site and merger with the Library Theatre, then becoming a founding sponsor of the arts centre from its opening in 2015.
The firm donates any unused tickets that were purchased as part of its sponsorship to HOME’s Inspire ticket scheme at the end of the year - these are then gifted to local people who may not have had the opportunity or resources to visit.
Karl Jackson, Partner and Weightmans and Trustee of HOME said:
"Manchester boasts so much cultural diversity and we are delighted to have an organisation such as HOME on our doorstep, bringing some of the best art, theatre and music to the North West. It is important to us that as many people as possible have access to this.
"As a firm with its own Manchester legacy, we work hard to contribute to the social and economic success of our city and its people. We are delighted be part of the Inspire scheme, and we hope those who receive the tickets take joy from the experience."
Roisin Joyce, Development Director at HOME said:
"We want to ensure that everyone can access the arts, whatever their financial circumstances. This wouldn’t be possible without generous donations from the public and our corporate partners, like Weightmans.
"The Weightmans donation of over £800 worth of tickets means that many individuals will be able to visit and engage with arts and culture in Manchester and we are hugely grateful to Weightmans for their generous support."
