Weightmans welcomes social housing specialist

National law firm Weightmans has appointed a leading social housing expert to its growing team in Liverpool.

Matthew Wilson joins the firm from Clarke Wilmott. He spent three years in his previous role, which saw him assist in the setting up of a social housing department and lead the disrepair team, managing a team of solicitors through increasing demand from the sector.

Ranked by leading legal directory the Legal 500 as a ‘Next Generation Lawyer’, Matthew was admitted as a solicitor in 2006 and has acted exclusively for social landlords throughout his career. He advises and represents clients across the UK, handling all manner of housing management matters including anti-social behaviour injunctions, claims for possession and disrepair claims, defending many high value matters.

Weightmans has been providing advice and support to registered providers for more than 20 years, and the firm’s team of specialists is able to advise on every aspect of social housing.

Of his appointment, Matthew said:

"Weightmans has an outstanding market reputation in the social housing sector. I have admired the firm for its commitment to providing a service which goes beyond legal advice – it is a good fit for me and I am very excited to be here."

Partner Sian Evans added:

"Our social housing clients have never been under more pressure or scrutiny and it is crucial that they receive the most commercial and intuitive support from their advisors. Matthew has an incredible amount of experience in this area, having specialised exclusively in social housing law for his entire career to date. He has brought with him some great insights, knowledge and experience and is a first rate addition to the team."

The news comes as the firm is ranked in the latest edition of legal directory Legal 500, with Department head and property litigator Sian Evans described as 'very knowledgeable and cuts through difficult matters with sound and commercial advice'. The firm is also listed in Chambers UK for social housing, highlighted for 'their timeliness in responding to client enquiries [which] makes them stand out'.
