Biography

Suzan advises on all aspects of planning law and has strong expertise of regeneration, major urban developments and planning policy.  Her practice spans strategic, contentious and transactional work across residential, commercial and infrastructure sectors.

Suzan’s significant experience of local authority and developer clients brings a unique strategic insight to projects, and includes advising planning committees, executive and investment boards. Having led and advised on high profile urban regeneration and estate renewals projects, such as the Aylesbury Estate, Canada Water and London Bridge Quarter, she has an intimate understanding of the national and London planning context, and an inter-disciplinary approach to navigating the challenges of delivering multi-stakeholder regeneration.  Presently Suzan is advising a consortium of local authorities delivering the new Harlow and Gilston Garden Town in respect of planning and governance, including strategic planning applications for 7 new villages delivering 10,000 homes, jobs and significant enabling infrastructure.

Suzan excels at shaping her clients’ development strategy from concept to delivery and embraces innovation as vital in a dynamic development landscape. During the 2008 recession, she authored the first pioneering Section 106 viability review mechanisms to unlock unviable developments to deliver more affordable housing, which are widely used across the development industry a decade on.  Public sector and developer clients alike value Suzan as a ‘savvy strategist,’ ‘an original thinker’ and ‘team player’ who seamlessly blends technical, commercial and public law expertise to find creative and viable solutions that ensure delivery of projects.

Suzan has significant experience of leading teams and projects at a top 30 City law firm and in the public sector.  She is equally adept offering strategic advice, leading projects, inquiry and CPO teams and negotiating complex Section 106 agreements.  A highly regarded planning practitioner recommended by Legal 500 (2014 and 2015).
