Newcastle corporate team complete record number of deals for 2024

The Newcastle corporate team completed a record 132 deals in 2024 – an 11% uplift on the previous year.

Its dealmaking activity supported the M&A, private equity and exit strategies of clients right across the North East region, including strategic growth sectors for the firm, such as technology.

Among the stand-out deals was Gateshead-based website accessibility software business, Recite Me, who were advised by Weightmans after securing follow-on multi-million-pound investment from BGF to strengthen its position in the market and continue to invest in its product offering and international growth strategy.

The continued growth and success of the Newcastle corporate team is in part thanks to the expansion of the team during the last 12 months, including the promotion to partner for Kirsty Adamson, and promotion to principal associate for Rosie Roof.

Kirsty Adamson, said:

“We are incredibly proud of these record-breaking results, and it enables us to confidently start 2025 with real optimism. To be able to demonstrate an increase in activity reaffirms our position in the North East as the go-to law firm for corporate deals.

“Again, this all wouldn’t be possible without the hard work of the team who continue to deliver excellent results for our clients across the region and beyond.”

Recite Me chief executive, Ross Linnett, said:

“Thanks to the expertise and guidance provided by the team at Weightmans, we were able to smoothly navigate this significant milestone in our company growth strategy. Once again we are able to maximise our investment relationship with BGF to further our work in helping millions more people to access online content around the world."

The strong results were driven by other key deals including Datum360, a connected data platform, that was acquired by global software leader, Autodesk (led by partner, Duncan Reid); game developer, Red Rover Interactive and a £12.05m investment led by South Korean gaming publisher Krafton (led by partner, Paul Wigham); and Hartlepool-based brewer and pub operator, Camerons Brewery, and its refinance and new funding package with Sandton Capital Partners.
