Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I)
At Weightmans we are passionate about diversity, equity and inclusion and we believe DE&I principles fully support our See the Possibility purpose, which is core to the success of our firm.
We strive to be a diverse and inclusive environment where all our people can be themselves and thrive: we recognise that DE&I strongly links to wellbeing and sense of belonging, and this in turn feeds into career satisfaction and staff morale, supporting performance, innovation, and service delivery.
Our DE&I journey is ever evolving, and we are committed to continue to attract, retain and develop diverse talent, and nurture a culture of opportunities where our people can develop and fulfil their potential irrespective of their background, identity or start in life.

Our DE&I Strands of focus and broader commitment to equal opportunities
In recognition of longstanding societal barriers and historical under-representation in the legal sector, we concentrate our DE&I work on four intersectional strands of focus:
- Gender
- LGBTQ+
- Race, ethnicity and cultural heritage
- Disability and neurodiversity
We acknowledge that multiple layers of individual identities and experiences compound differently across groups and people, and we approach DE&I through the lens of intersectionality mindful also of how age and socioeconomic cut across all our strands of focus.
We have several DE&I Champions across our sites and for each strand, we have leads, networks and affinity groups who support awareness raising, engagement and allyship.
Social Mobility cut across all strands, with dedicated programmes that support our purpose and DE&I commitment. Visit our early careers and lateral hires pages for more information.
Our strategic approach to DE&I
To harness our progress and fully embed DE&I in our ethos and ways of working, we have developed a comprehensive DE&I Roadmap which provides a holistic framework that ties into our firm’s values and strategic priorities.
The Roadmap sets out Weightmans’ DE&I commitments across four inter-related pillars. These consider employee lifecycle and employee experience, capacity building and role modelling, and key responsible business practices which make DE&I a core component of our wider ESG and CSR strategy.
Key Performance Indicators such as diversity targets and other quantitative and qualitative measures, shape our work across pillars and strands of focus, and help us monitor and report progress and positive impact.
