Andreja Begus Harrison

Andreja is a Principal Associate in the health sector team, specialising in defending clinical negligence matters on behalf of various NHS Trusts. She also regularly provides training to clinicians and other NHS staff on various legal topics and represents clients at settlement meetings and mediations.

Andreja manages a full caseload of a variety of different files, from more complicated pre-action investigations to a mix of lower value litigated cases, often involving intricate medico legal issues. The vast majority of her case load however consists of higher value, fully litigated complex cases, including cauda equina cases, brain injury cases and cases involving multiple defendants. She recently handled a case valued at £5 million, where the defendant successfully resiled from pre‑action admissions and succeeded with pleading actus interveniens doctrine.

Andreja was included in the most recent Legal 500, where she was singled out as a “great fighter” and praised for “really knowing her cases well”.

In her previous role, Andreja also acquired significant experience in inquest work and regularly represented Trusts at inquests throughout the North East and Cumbria. She has vast experience in supporting witnesses through the inquest process, preparing comprehensive witness statements, conducting advocacy at inquests and advising Trusts about the issues that require investigation and/or improvement. She advised on issues highlighted by SUI Investigations, on how to avoid Regulation 28 recommendations and on how lessons can be learned in the context of patient safety.

Prior to coming to the UK, Andreja spent several years working for the European Institutions, initially as a Stagiaire at the European Commission’s Directorate General for Health and Consumer Protection and thereafter as a Lawyer Linguist at the European Parliament.

She is a proud mother and chief entertainer of two gorgeous boys, aged 6 and 8, and spends a substantial amount of her free time dancing around the kitchen with them.
