Angela Giannotti

Angela is an experienced public lawyer and civil litigator who has a broad range of experience in law. Now specialising in police work, her clients and colleagues rely on her abilities to deal with unusual and complex cases.

She provides operational advice and conducts claims, Investigatory Powers Tribunal, public inquiry and judicial review matters. Angela is currently on secondment to the Metropolitan Police Service, where she works on the Undercover Policing Inquiry (‘UCPI’) for the Commissioner’s Legal team. She leads on all litigation arising out of the facts of the UCPI and works on aspects of the Inquiry.

Experience and notable cases:

• Sir David Barclay v Tuck (aka Lord De Chanson) [2018] EWHC 1125 (QB) successfully acted for the Defendant in committal proceedings in respect of purported breach of various orders by the French and English courts

• Claims regarding deceived sexual relationships

• Advising a police force on a criminal offence arising from the Geneva Conventions

• Acting for the Respondent in an Investigatory Powers Tribunal claim for breaches of Articles 3, 8, 9, 10 and 14 arising from the use of a Covert Human Intelligence Source

• Privacy and Negligence claims arising from deployment of undercover police officers

• Undercover Policing Inquiry (acting for the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis)

• Review of a Restriction Order granting anonymity to a witness in a public inquiry who was at risk of breach of Article 2 and 3 rights under the European Convention on Human Rights
