Claire Whiting

Claire Whiting is a Principal Associate in our Regulatory Police Team based in our Leicester Office.

Claire is an experienced regulatory lawyer specialising in police conduct and performance matters, police vetting and judicial review proceedings. She qualified as a solicitor in 2010 and joined Weightmans in 2016.

She has more than 18 years' litigation experience and has provided in-house legal advice to senior policing leaders on a broad range of high profile, complex and sensitive issues.

Claire worked alongside the Home Office, the College of Policing and senior policing leaders to develop and implement the new statutory framework governing the police vetting regime, which came into force in 2025. Her work included providing in-house legal advice and assistance with the development of force vetting processes.

Claire advises on the full range of police misconduct matters, including gross misconduct proceedings, accelerated misconduct hearings, appeals before the Police Appeals Tribunal and related judicial review litigation.

In addition, Claire is frequently instructed to advise on police vetting, business interests, disclosure obligations and wider regulatory issues affecting police forces.

Claire has also served as Secretary to the Association of Police Lawyers Misconduct Sub-Committee, contributing to discussions and initiatives concerning police misconduct law, policy and procedure.
