Isobel originally studied medicine before converting to law. Since qualifying as a solicitor in 1994 she has specialised in defendant clinical negligence acting on behalf of NHS Trusts and the NHSLA, now NHSR, since its inception. Having worked at several panel firms before joining Weightmans in 2017, Isobel has gained extensive experience in defending and resolving all types of clinical negligence cases. Isobel specialises in claims of the utmost severity including birth and adult brain injury claims, spinal claims and other catastrophic injuries. She has settled a large number of cases involving periodical payments. She has both extensive trial and mediation experience. Her advice is pragmatic, robust and cost effective.
Isobel has a particular interest in patient safety and learning, obstetric cases, mental health law and in cases that relate to informed consent. Isobel is also experienced in representing NHS Trusts at inquests.
In addition, Isobel has experience of judicial review of healthcare provision, particularly in the mental health sector. She has advised on best interest assessments and withdrawal of treatment cases. She has also lectured to NHS Trusts on issues such as patient safety, consent, the clinical negligence process and preparing for inquests.
