Biography

Matthew joined Weightmans in 2017 as a solicitor in the real estate team. Matthew advises clients on commercial property acquisitions/disposals as well as asset management and landlord & tenant matters.

Matthew has particular expertise in the area of leaseholder enfranchisement, having developed a significant niche practice at his former firm. Matthew has regularly lectured to fellow professionals and property owners on the issues arising out of residential lease extensions and enfranchisement. He is a member of a specialist surveyor's panel of solicitors and regularly receives referrals and recommendations from surveyors, solicitors and other professionals, recognising his expertise in this specialist area of work, as well as being directly instructed by property owners, be they leaseholders or freeholders. Matthew advises landlords and tenants across the country including in central London on:

  • Residential lease extensions (Leasehold Reform Housing & Urban Development Act 1993)
  • Collective enfranchisement (Leasehold Reform Housing & Urban Development Act 1993)
  • Right to manage (The Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Act 2002)
  • Acquisition of freehold (Leasehold Reform Act 1967)

Matthew is accredited by the Association of Leasehold Enfranchisement Practitioners (ALEP) for his expertise and work in the field of leasehold enfranchisement.
