Richard was managing partner of Mace & Jones prior to its merger with Weightmans and former head of Mace & Jones’ dispute resolution department in Manchester. He now holds the position of regional office head at our Manchester and Knutsford offices.

With over 26 years of experience, Richard specialises in all aspects of commercial dispute resolution including partnership matters, commercial disputes, contentious probate and judicial review.

Richard’s expertise is dealing with substantial, complex litigation matters, predominantly in the Chancery Division in the High Court. He has a deserved reputation for excellence in handling shareholder disputes, partnership claims, public contract procurement challenges, complex contractual issues and intellectual property matters. Richard has particular expertise in seeking injunctive relief to protect clients’ interests on a pre-emptive basis. On larger, high value cases, Richard would normally lead a team of lawyers ensuring high service levels at a competitive cost base. Richard’s instinctive ability to provide detailed strategic advice is a huge asset in project managing heavy weight cases.

Richard has practical hands on experience of all manner of partnership matters. A commercial litigator by trade, Richard brings a hard nosed yet realistic approach to a range of disputes, from partner exits to dealing with under performance, team moves and mergers. He is a member of the Association of Partnership Practitioners (NW region).

The Lawyer Awards 2006 shortlisted Mace & Jones for Employment team of the year, citing the case of Celtec v Astley [2006] UK HL 29 that Richard took to the House of Lords. His other reported cases are Bradford & Bingley v Ross [2005] EWCA CIV 394; Bruce Cook v Vehicle Inspectorate [1999] House of Lords, Kemble v Hicks [1999] PLR 287.
