Shayda Coulter-Bell

Shay is an Associate in the Local Government team based in Weightmans Leeds office.

Shay has over 7 years’ experience in Defendant insurance litigation, defending a wide range of employer’s liability and public liability claims, including both fast-track and complex multri-track matters and also, dealing with and representing clients in inquests.

Shay now primarily specialises in social care and abuse claims and coronial matters, involving local authorities, acting in cases concerning both historic and recent allegations. This includes cases arising from a wide range of social care matters including failures in both child and adult safeguarding, residential care, schools and foster placements. Shay has experience handling complex issues of liability, limitation and evidential challenges.

Alongside this work, Shay also represents clients in inquest proceedings, with particular experience in cases involving the care sector specifically. This includes inquests engaging issues of neglect, systemic failings and the provision of care.

These two strands of practice often run alongside each other, with Shay frequently advising clients on overlapping issues arising from both civil claims and related inquest proceedings.
