Roger qualified as a Solicitor in 2007 and joined Weightmans in March 2018 as an associate based in the Birmingham Office. He was made a Principal Associate in 2019.

Roger is part of the local government and energy & utilities teams at Weightmans and has over 18 years’ experience in dispute resolution and litigation, acting for public sector clients.

He has extensive experience advising and dealing with a broad range of public liability and statutory compensation claims, with a particular focus on the water sector, and specialises in handling claims for damage to the highway network and properties as a result of the escape of water and waste from undertakers assets, natural flooding, tree roots and invasive species.

He has considerable experience of handling statutory claims for damages under the Highways Act, Water Industry Act and NRSWA, and in common law nuisance.

Roger acted for the successful party in the Court of Appeal case of Vernon Knight Associates v Cornwall Council 2013, involving property damage caused by highway flooding and has recent experience of handling high-value claims for substantial damage to a highway and a claim for damage to multiple properties in excess of £4m.

Roger also has experience dealing with an array of claims brought under the 6 pack regulations, OLA and negligence and routinely advises on the potential for civil liability for matters at Inquest.

As part of his work, Roger is experienced in drafting pleadings and advices; has experience of dealing with injunctions; participating and advising in ADR, including mediation and JSMs; and taking matters to trial and on appeal when appropriate. Roger has presented at seminars and webinars and regularly delivers training to clients.

Roger has been recognised in the Legal 500 and is part of the International Desks team for Germany and the Netherlands.
