The Global Talent visa

The Global Talent route is designed to attract recognised leaders and “rising stars” in their specialist fields to the UK.

The visa is available to talented and promising individuals working in fields including science, engineering, medicine, humanities, digital technology, and arts and culture (including film and television, fashion design and architecture) who wish to live and work in the UK.

The Global Talent visa offers a flexible immigration route for individuals who have achieved recognition in their field or who have the potential to become future leaders. Unlike many other UK immigration routes, it does not require a job offer or sponsorship from a UK employer, allowing successful applicants greater flexibility to work, change roles, or develop their career in the UK.

UK Global Talent visa requirements

To qualify for a UK Global Talent visa, you will need to demonstrate to UK Visas and Immigration that:

• You are aged 18 or over;

• You have received an endorsement from a Home Office-approved endorsing body, or have been awarded a prize listed in Appendix Global Talent: Prestigious Prizes;

• Your application does not fall under the general grounds for refusal; and

• You have provided a valid TB certificate, if required.

The Global Talent route is not subject to a cap on the number of applicants and does not require you to have a job offer in the UK.

Settlement / Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR)

The Global Talent route can lead to settlement in the UK after five years. However, some applicants may be eligible to apply for indefinite leave to remain (ILR) after three years if they are:

• Endorsed by the Royal Society, the British Academy, or the Royal Academy;

• Endorsed as a leader by Arts Council England or Tech Nation; or

• Granted an initial Global Talent visa based on a “prestigious prize”.

To qualify for ILR under the Global Talent route, you will generally need to have spent no more than 180 days outside the UK during any 12-month period.

Global Talent migrants who hold leave following an endorsement from one of the endorsing bodies for science, engineering, humanities or medicine, and who have undertaken research overseas directly related to their grant of leave, may not have these absences counted towards the absence requirement when applying for settlement. Partners of Global Talent migrants may also benefit from this provision.

Qualifying fields

The Global Talent route is open to both established talent (individuals who can demonstrate that they are already leaders in their field) and those who show the potential to become future leaders.

The route covers the following fields:

• Arts and culture;

• Film and television;

• Digital technology;

• Fashion and design; and

• Science, engineering, medicine, social sciences and humanities.

Demonstrating leadership or potential leadership

Before applying to the Home Office for a Global Talent visa, you will usually need either an endorsement from the relevant authorised body or a qualifying award listed in Appendix Global Talent: Prestigious Prizes.

Each endorsing body has its own criteria for assessing Global Talent applications. However, in most cases, you will need to demonstrate a substantial body of work and provide evidence of recognition and support from experts in your field.

Applicants who have received a qualifying prestigious award can avoid the endorsement process but must still submit a valid visa application and meet the other route and suitability requirements.

English language and maintenance requirements

Global Talent applicants do not need to meet an English language requirement when applying for their initial visa or an extension.

However, applicants should be aware that an English language requirement must be met when applying for settlement. For settlement applications made before 26 March 2027, the required level is B1 unless an exemption applies. For settlement applications made on or after 26 March 2027, the required level will increase to B2.

There is no specific maintenance requirement for Global Talent applicants, meaning you do not need to show a minimum level of savings or funds in the same way as applicants under many other immigration routes.
