The transaction brought together specialists from across the firm's corporate, insolvency, commercial and employment teams
Weightmans has advised leading private provider of telehealth services, Doctor Care Anywhere (DCA), on its acquisition of the GLP-1 and medicated weight-loss business of Medicspot.
As a specialist provider of GLP-1 and medicated weight-loss services, Medicspot support patients through digital treatment pathways designed to improve access to weight management solutions. Since launching its weight management offering in October 2024, the business has grown a significant active patient base and established a strong position in the UK’s rapidly expanding digital health market.
Medicspot is a UK direct-to-consumer healthcare platform providing patients with access to digital healthcare and pharmacy services. The business has developed a strong consumer offering focused on accessibility and convenience, with capabilities that complement DCA’s existing virtual GP, mental health, physiotherapy and health assessment services.
With a purchase price of £850,000, the acquisition of Medicspot marks a significant step in DCA’s growth strategy, giving the business an immediate presence in the fast-growing UK weight management market while strengthening its direct-to-consumer healthcare offering.
Bringing in-house a high-performing team with established direct-to-consumer and GLP-1 capabilities, this transaction will create significant cross-selling opportunities across DCA’s wider healthcare services.
These acquisitions will also accelerate its direct-to-consumer offering across virtual GP, mental health, physiotherapy and health assessment services. DCA also plan to cross-sell its wider healthcare services to the acquired businesses’ customer base.
Weightmans’ Corporate Health team, led by partner Mike Clifford, advised DCA on the transaction. The multidisciplinary team included partner Charles Boyne, Kiri Hutton and Bella Bodmer advising on insolvency issues, Emily MacFadyen on corporate matters, Tom Trowhill on IP and commercial and Sejal Raja on employment aspects of the transaction.
Weightmans advised on the transaction structure and coordinated support across corporate, insolvency, commercial and employment matters, helping to facilitate a smooth completion within a fast-moving and strategically significant deal.
Mike Clifford, partner at Weightmans, said: “This acquisition represents an important strategic step for Doctor Care Anywhere, strengthening its position in the rapidly growing weight management market while creating valuable cross-selling opportunities across its broader healthcare offering.
“The transaction brought together specialists from across our corporate, insolvency, commercial and employment teams, enabling us to deliver coordinated advice on a complex deal completed at pace. It was a pleasure to work closely with the DCA team on a transaction that supports the next phase of its growth strategy.”
Jamie Aspinall, Chief of Staff of Doctor Care Anywhere, added: “We are delighted to welcome the Medicspot team to DCA and look forward to what we can achieve together.
“We greatly valued working with the Weightmans team on this acquisition. They were highly supportive throughout the process, delivering to an excellent standard and providing clear, pragmatic guidance at every stage. It was a genuinely positive experience collaborating with them on such an important transaction.”
