Stalking Protection Orders Working together with police forces to better protect people

One in six women and one in 12 men will experience stalking. The issue of stalking is widespread.

Since 20 January 2020, Police forces have been able to apply for a Stalking Protection Order (SPO). These new powers are an effective and early intervention. The Orders equip police with valuable powers to protect victims.

Sussex Police and Weightmans obtained the first SPO in the country. The Weightmans Stalking Protection Order Team now get several applications every week for numerous forces and have trained 1000’s of officers on how to get these orders.

It is imperative that forces are aware of this invaluable weapon in their armoury and are using it as a mechanism for protecting victims from unwanted and potentially life-threatening behaviour.
