Weightmans on recruitment drive in Newcastle

Weightmans has welcomed seven new recruits to its Newcastle office

National law firm Weightmans has recruited seven to its Newcastle office as its ambitious plans for growth in the region continue to pick up pace.

In recent months the firm has made seven appointments to various roles in the North East. These include retaining two newly qualified solicitors in Commercial Litigation and welcoming three new principal associates to the Real Estate, Insurance and Corporate teams and two solicitors to the Real Estate team. All of these appointments were made during lockdown and in response to increasing demand for services from clients.

There are plans to immediately restart the firm’s investment in the Region, with recruitment underway for 7 partner appointments, which will all be based in Newcastle, offering the local business community additional support and resources and assisting colleagues across the firm’s other seven offices. The new roles are to strengthen the Firm’s existing and award-winning teams as well as to offer new services locally.

The Firm is looking for Partners in Real Estate, Corporate, Commercial Litigation, Speciality Insurance, Insolvency and Private Client.

Weightmans arrived in Newcastle in 2019 after acquiring long-established North East firm Watson Burton. The firm has continued to strengthen its offering there, with an award-winning corporate team and a sharp spike in referrals both from and into the region.

Partner and head of the Newcastle office Chris Graham said: “I am thrilled to have welcomed so much new talent to the Newcastle office in recent months and to be launching another wave of recruitment to senior positions as the next stage of our plans for growth.

“The ability to offer national expertise to our regional client base has really set us apart from our competitors and shows up in the level of support we have from our existing clients and those using our services for the first time. This increase in demand means we are now in the very fortunate position to bring on board more senior level expertise and talent to help support our clients in whatever challenges they may face.

“The firm works hard to invest in its people and support them in their own professional ambitions and goals. We are confident that this focus on wellbeing, reward and recognition will continue to attract the very best of the market to join us at this exciting time.”

Weightmans was recognised as a Top Employer for the 14th time by the Top Employers Institute in February 2021.
