National law firm Weightmans has appointed Daniel West to Partner in the firm’s London office.
Daniel joins the firm from Horwich Farrelly and has joined Weightmans’ casualty and police teams. He specialises in a unique combination of both product liability and actions against the police.
In his product liability practice, Daniel regularly acts for manufacturers, suppliers and insurers in respect of personal injuries/fatalities, property damage and coverage issues. He has a particular interest in food and drink claims and is also experienced in advising on product recalls, regulatory matters and international claims and in this respect will be working with our colleagues across the globe within our ILG network. He is the first port of call for clients on emerging risks, like automated vehicles and artificial intelligence, including by providing training and workshops. He is also head of FOIL’s product liability sector focus team.
In the police team, Daniel has extensive experience successfully defending multi-track police claims to trial, including jury trials. He has advised on claims involving allegations of false imprisonment, assault, trespass, misfeasance in public office, malicious prosecution, breaches of the HRA and data protection issues. Daniel has been recognised in Chambers and Partners for his work defending police forces, with the esteemed legal directory describing him as ‘superbly organised and thorough, with an impressive depth of knowledge of police law and procedure... he is a great communicator with clients and always has their needs in focus’.
Daniel joined the firm last month, and news of his arrival follows the triple hire of a Manchester police team earlier in the summer.
