Biography

Balraj is a dual qualified lawyer in the jurisdictions of England & Wales and Ontario, Canada.

Balraj has over 10 years’ experience of working in insurance defence law firms. He initially specialised in clinical negligence claims whilst in the UK between 2013-2020 representing both NHS Resolution and private insurers.

In 2020, Balraj relocated to Toronto, Canada, and practiced more broadly across many different specialty lines on instruction from domestic and international insurers as well as coverholders of the Lloyd’s market. Balraj also gained experience in defending class action claims and providing coverage opinions on CGL policies.

Balraj joined Weightmans in 2023 as a Principal Associate in the Birmingham office's Healthcare team and has resumed his specialised practice as a defendant clinical negligence lawyer.

Balraj runs a caseload mostly comprised of the severest of injuries including birth injury, adult neurological and neurosurgical. Balraj is extensively experienced in all elements of claims handling and represents both NHS Trusts and private insurers.
