The UK consumer enforcement landscape has dramatically shifted. With new direct enforcement powers, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) can now investigate and fine businesses without going through the courts, fundamentally changing the risk profile for consumer-facing companies.
In the past year alone, the CMA has issued over 150 warning and advisory letters, launched 14 investigations, and imposed its first multi-million pound penalty under the new regime. The direction of travel is clear, enforcement is accelerating.
We are hosting a senior-level panel in collaboration with CMA at our Manchester office to explore what this means in practice and how your organisation should respond.
