NHS Charge increases from 1 October 2025

An increase to recoverable NHS charges came into effect on 1 October 2025.  The Compensation Recovery Unit, on behalf of the Department of Health and Social Care is empowered to recover NHS costs from compensators where injured parties claim and receive compensation.

The increases, outlined below, only apply to injuries sustained on or after 1 October 2025.

Although any increase in the overall costs of dealing with claims for personal injury cannot be welcomed, it is some comfort that the rate of the increase has slowed down somewhat.  Usually, NHS charge rates are reviewed and increased annually.  However, 2023 and 2024 each saw two increases to the rates within each respective year, reflecting the turbulent interest rates of the time.

This year there has been a return to the status quo with only one rise in 12 months which should lend some predictability to compensators when setting reserves.
