Weightmans’ associate wins STEP Excellence Award

Associate Lorraine Wilson obtained the highest score in the STEP Advanced Certificate in Administration of Trusts examinations in 2020.

Lorraine Wilson, an associate in Weightmans’ wills, trusts and estates team obtained the highest score in the STEP Advanced Certificate in Administration of Trusts (England and Wales) examinations in 2020.

STEP (The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners) is a global professional association for practitioners specialising in inheritance and succession planning. STEP members are recognised as experts in the sector and membership is widely acknowledged as the benchmark qualification that many private client solicitors strive for.

The process to becoming fully STEP qualified is rigorous, ensuring the highest professional standards are upheld. Students are required to complete a number of examinations, gaining detailed technical knowledge of the legal issues surrounding trust and estate administration and taxation. This develops practitioners into expert advisors who provide high quality, holistic advice to clients.

According to STEP, the Excellence Award winners “represent the best and the brightest practitioners — many of whom will be names to watch out for in the years ahead”.

On her achievement, Lorraine comments: “I was delighted to learn I have won a STEP Excellence Award.  The STEP exams are very challenging and to be recognised at the top-scoring student in the examination is a great accomplishment.”

Richard Bate, partner and head of Weightmans’ national wills, trust and estates team comments: “Lorraine’s recognition as a STEP Excellence Award winner is testament to her hard work and tireless dedication to the STEP qualification process. It shows her commitment to providing our clients with the highest quality advice.”

The wills, trusts and estates team at Weightmans boasts a number of STEP-qualified lawyers and is committed to ensure that all solicitors achieve STEP accreditation.
