James Stevens is a Partner in our Insurance Fraud team, based in Liverpool.

James is a Liverpool based Partner who trained and qualified in England and Wales in 2004. He has been specifically focused in the defence of insurance fraud claims spanning a career of 21 years. Based in Weightmans counter fraud team, James is a specialist in a broad spectrum of insurance fraud claims including motor, casualty and property. He has a particular specialism in the defence of high value organised fraud claims and the disruption of professional enablers and has successfully defended organised fraud operations with a value in excess of £3.5 million. He has helped insurers to design innovative data driven solutions and the set up of their own internal fraud processes.


He was the lead lawyer in the Azimi Group of cases which is renowned as being the first group of cases to utilise similar fact evidence in order to provide a fraud conspiracy over 88 road traffic accident claims and is renowned in the insurance fraud claims sector for his strategic litigation work resulting in awards of exemplary damages. He has also worked with regulatory bodies and the Insurance Fraud Enforcement Department with a view to achieving long terms disruption of organised fraud groups.

The Azimi Group Litigation, the first contested series of 'slam on' cases where the similar fact evidence linking 88 separate rear end shunts involving commercial vehicles and decoy vehicles and a group of accident management companies with common ownership resulting in fraud findings across a group of cases that went to trial in the County Court at Central London, Lawtel 13.2.14
