Mathew Ferguson is an Associate in Weightmans' Industrial Disease Department based out of our Birmingham office.
Mathew Ferguson is an Industrial Disease Associate with over 10 years' experience in litigation, particularly noise induced hearing loss claims. He acts for major insurance clients, public body clients and self-insured businesses, managing a high-volume and complex case load across a wide range of disease types and accident types.
Mathew has strong expertise in assessing liability, breach of duty, causation, limitation and quantum, with particular skills in analysing employment, corporate and insurance histories, policy coverage and medical causation. He regularly instructs and manages medical and acoustic experts, critically evaluating expert evidence to develop robust and proportionate defence strategies.
He is experienced across all stages of the civil litigation process, from pre-action investigations and strategic advice through to settlement negotiations and trial preparation/trial. Mathew works closely with claims handlers, in-house legal teams, and risk managers to deliver commercially focused outcomes, ensuring effective cost control, consistency of approach, and compliance with client requirements.
He is known for his pragmatic, analytical approach, strong technical knowledge, and ability to managing large caseloads while maintaining high standards and while protecting clients' financial and reputational interests.
