The next court hearing in the concussion class action is scheduled for 22 and 23  July 2025.

Last month saw an increase in claims against the three governing bodies, World Rugby, Rugby Football Union and Welsh Rugby Union. Over 1,100 ex professional players claim that repetitive head impacts during their careers have caused long term neurological conditions.

At the next case management hearing, 21 test cases will be selected with a view to a potential trial commencing in 2026. These test cases will represent the broader group in court by establishing legal and medical issues and precedents for handling the rest of the cases.

As scan technology in medical science continues to evolve, we watch for developments in the role of advanced neurological imaging in legal proceedings and the weight that judges will attach to it.
