Weightmans wins place on national NHS legal framework

Weightmans has been appointed to the four-year framework, which runs from February 2023

Weightmans has been appointed to a new NHS Commercial Solutions legal framework to support the provision of legal services to NHS organisations across the UK.

Through the four-year framework, which runs from February 2023, NHS bodies can access expert legal advice at a competitive, transparent rate in a range of broad service areas. This includes commercial law, corporate law, employment law, property law, health law, primary care law, mental health law, NHS governance and public law and laws relating to healthcare projects.

Weightmans has been appointed to all eight service areas, and joins the framework for the first time. RadcliffesLeBrasseur — which merged with Weightmans in June 2022 — was previously listed on the preceding framework, launched in 2019.

The firm’s services will be delivered through its 166-strong national health team, which provides support to NHS Trusts, medical professionals, businesses and practices nationwide.

Sejal Raja, Partner at Weightmans, said: “These are challenging times for healthcare professionals, particularly in the public sector. NHS organisations are under pressure to do increasingly more, but facing resource challenges and intense scrutiny.

“It’s essential that they can access legal support to give them the confidence to continue to deliver and grow the critical services we all rely on, and that’s exactly what this framework enables.

“Weightmans has significantly expanded its health team with the addition of colleagues from RadcliffesLeBrasseur following the merger — strengthening the expertise and experience we offer our clients. We’re looking forward to supporting even more NHS organisations through this framework in the months and years to come.”

Weightmans’ appointment to the NHS Commercial Solutions framework follows its appointment to NHS Resolution’s three-year Legal Framework panels, to which the firm was re-confirmed in 2022.

The Legal Framework panels — which see Weightmans deliver services relating to clinical and non-clinical liabilities, and complex, health-related issues — replace a previous NHS Resolution panel for legal services awarded in 2017, which also featured Weightmans on each of its three lots.
