Chantal UI Haq-Weedon is a Partner and heads up the Court of Protection team at Weightmans. Although she works across the country, she is located in Leicester.

Chantal has in depth experience in Court of Protection matters including applications for:

  • a property and affairs deputy
  • a health and welfare deputy
  • authority to sell/buy a house
  • a statutory Will
  • a gift
  • emergency hearings

Chantal is supported by the Court of Protection team at Weightmans enabling her to take on more complex matters. She has experience in guiding families through disputed deputyship applications or contested statutory Will applications as well as s21a proceedings where the Court is being asked to decide where is in the vulnerable person’s best interests to live. Chantal’s experience includes contentious and non-contentious work.

Acting as a professional deputy, trustee and attorney in her own right as well as through the Weightmans Trust Corporation Limited, Chantal manages complex financial affairs and property matters worth £5million + including adapting property for clients with or without capacity due to dementia or an acquired brain injury. Chantal has experience investigating financial abuse cases as well as supporting lay attorneys with OPG investigations.

Chantal also has experience in supporting vulnerable clients during sensitive situations such as sexual abuse, drug/alcohol dependency, getting married/divorced or wanting a baby. Chantal acts as professional health and welfare attorney enabling her to bring a well-rounded experience to her clients.

Chantal acts as an expert witness in court proceedings, providing her professional opinion on historic and future professional deputyship costs and is a member of the Association of Lifetime Lawyers.

Chantal has provided training to social workers, care home staff and special education needs teachers; presented to parents/guardians of a special education need child on how to prepare for the transition from children’s services to adult services.
