James is a partner in the regulatory healthcare team, operating primarily out of the Manchester office. James has 14 years of experience across the full range of medical regulatory procedures, originally as one of the first members of the then new GMC in house legal team established in Manchester in 2003, where he was a presenting advocate and legal adviser to the GMC on its fitness to practise procedures at a pivotal time in their development. For the past ten years, however, James' practice has been exclusively within the field of medical defence and in which James has developed a considerable reputation in the representation of practitioners appearing before their regulatory body, including hearings of the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service, NHS England and Hospital Trusts, inquests, police investigations, judicial review, injunction, and inquest proceedings. James sees his specialty, the defence of healthcare professionals, individuals who devote their lives to the care of others, as a unique privilege and one which is immensely fulfilling and rewarding and increasingly important in these challenging times for the healthcare professions.
